Quickie Vid - “IT’S FINALLY READY!” Hot off the press, the highlights from my first day on the job! Thanks to everyone for all your support and hospitality. Although I never mentioned this in the video, I would like to send a special thanks to my family: Dad (Lee), mom (Cindy), brother (Jesse) and girlfriend (Candice) - in no specific order (smile). As well as the entire community of Port Alberni, and the amazing YVR community (24,000+ workers). I’m currently in my third week on the job, still 67 more days to go and many more stories to come.
Quickie Post - “First Day on the Job” Not many people could say their first day on the job was spent sipping bubbly + orange juice, snacking on the finest pastries, and enjoying mountainous views from the comforts of a private Learjet. If you haven’t heard of LAS, London Air Service, it’s about time you did. Luxurious jets, a million dollar ‘Colgate’ crew and a private hanger so polished, so modern, it makes the mac store look like a greasy spoon diner. The Learjet experience was amazing, clear skies, a warm morning sun and sparkling blue ocean below.. I could go on, but unfortunately we had to double back to YVR for a ‘special meeting’. As we approached the runway, I noticed a large gathering on the tarmac. We came to a butter soft stop, and I could see a “bus load” of media reporters anxiously waiting for someone. A look of panic shot across my face. My fingers dug into the plush Italian leather, for a moment I was struck by lighting and couldn’t move. My PR Manager, Steph, gave a chuckle and coaxed me out the tight exit. I looked down.. the red carpet looked beautiful. I felt like a star! And that’s when the money shot was snapped (see photo above). It’s amazing how something shocking can almost become second nature in a matter of seconds. Was it YVR, CEO, Larry Berg’s warm smile that relaxed me, or the thrill of having thousands of flashes flicker from all directions? Either way, I gave Mr. Berg a good ol “Port Alberni” bear hug after he presented me with an awesome Hawaiian Shirt. I really wanted to provide everyone with some footage of the day, but I just didn’t have the time to put something together. My twitter, facebook, text message and facebook accounts have been going none stop. It wasn’t until 7pm tonight when I finally answered everyone’s messages. Thank-you to all my friends, family and fans for all your messages and post. YOU ROCK! Thank-you to LAS, YVR and the Fairmont Vancouver Airport for providing me with an unforgettable first day on the job. It tops any other! For more story visit: Province Newspaper.
