Jaeger's diary

Personal Diary - “Moves Like Jaeger” I had an awesome and totally unexpected night on Friday. It all started when I ran into a few friends at YVR who were on their way to the Flying Beaver Pub. It was 9am, and I wanted to get a few more hours of video editing in. However, my friends were very convincing.. and that little voice inside my head wouldn’t shut-up, “Jaeger, get out of your room, relax and party!” We could hear the music bumping from outside, and within seconds of arriving we were greeted by familiar faces: Patty the Bartender, and two awesome live@yvr fans, Gina and Lisa. While Patty kept our thirst quenched, me and the ladies hit up the dance floor (for those of you who don’t know, I love to dance). We danced all night and my ‘Moves Like Jagger’ definitely prevailed. It’s impossible not to be charmed by the nostalgia of the Flying Beaver Pub (FBP). Located on the shores of the Fraser River on a small pier, just across from the South Terminal, the FBP shares a rustic wooden warehouse with Harbour Air. The FBP is decorated with a ton of flight paraphernalia, has huge windows overlooking all the float-plane activity, the beer is a great price and on a Friday and Saturday night.. the place is bumping with friendly locals. Waking up the next morning was a little difficult, but I had videos on my mind. I worked solid from 8:30 - 5:00pm without noticing time fly by! Thank-god Candice (my girlfriend) stopped by with some treats (pumpkin cheese cake made by her sister - thanks Carmea!) and some other homemade goodies, otherwise I probably would have worked all night. It’s so important to get out and unwind. Work can be consuming, but as I learned this weekend.. your down-time is essential. I could have stared at the computer all night on Friday, but instead I went out, had a blast and on the next day (although a little tired) got more accomplished than I could have ever imagined. PS - Special Thanks to the team at Absolute Spa in the Fairmont Hotel. My girlfriend and I received the ultimate VIP treatment this morning. Candice was blown away by the strength of her esthetician’s tiny hands. I couldn’t believe how soft my skin felt after my facial! YES, my facial.. lol. I’ve never had a facial before, but I will be back for another. There is more to come on my Absolute Spa experience in the coming days. Have an amazing week everyone! (Only 19 days left…)

Quickie Vid - “Surprise Friday Dinner” I’ve had a number of people have ask what my plans are for Thanksgiving. My answer is, I don’t know? I’m actually excited to experience what unravels by letting spontaneity run its course. Despite the fact I’m 29 years old, this is the first year I’ve spent Thanksgiving away from my family. YVR never sleeps, and neither does my job. At any given time there are hundreds, even thousands of people who are in the same boat as me. They are here in YVR, either traveling or working. They too are away from their families and trying to make the best of their job or adventure. Take tonight for instance, my girlfriend surprised me with a delicious pork and potato dinner. We took a couple plates and linens from the Fairmont dinning room, brought them upstairs and had ourselves a quiet romantic dinner overlooking the view of the runway. I wasn’t expecting this at all, and it was the perfect end to a very busy week of interviews and video posts. So whats to come for tomorrow? My girlfriend will be having dinner with her family, so I look forward to investigating the airport in search of cool people to share some thanksgiving cheer with. Special thanks to the Grade 4 class of Stride Elementary for tackling me in the concourse this morning. It was an honor to hang with you dudes and dude-ets. Hope you liked the tour of the Fairmont and my hotel room. You have the best teacher ever! Have a good Friday night everyone :)

Quickie Vid - “Day 40” Today marks the half way point of my 80 day adventure. Will I last the remaining 40? At the moment all my mind can do is think about sleep. Wish I could be a little more descriptive, but unfortunately my brain stopped working about an hour ago.  Excited about my interview with Breakfast Television tomorrow morning. Plus, I’m looking forward to finally completing my videos on Eva Air’s Cargo Shift and AirChina’s Business Class. I also just want to send a special thanks to two very kind individuals for surprising me with Hawaiian shirts, Gord from Marquise Facilities and Robert of the City of St. Albert, Alberta. The shirts are awesome! I have already worn them both. Thanks guys.  Good night friends!

Personal Diary - “Weekend Recap” Good evening friends, family and fans. I had an awesome weekend. It started a little slow on Friday night. I’ll admit, the airport was very quiet and I was feeling kind of lonely. But! The fun I had on Saturday and Sunday definitely made up for it. Check out my most recent Personal Diary Post (above) for a quick recap.  It’s going to be a busy upcoming week! On Monday I’ll be working the BC Tourism Counter, showcasing our beautiful province to the thousands of passengers that pass through YVR’s arrival gates daily. Then, starting Wednesday morning I’ll be shadowed by two major news sources over a 24hour period, in which I’ll be showing fans ‘a day in the life’ of Live@YVR! Look forward to videos on both those events.  Tons of exciting stuff.. but I have to get my rest. So I’m off to bed (at 9:40 - the earliest I’ve gone to bed in years). Hope you all had an amazing weekend as well. Just a reminder to check out my facebook page (www.facebook.com/liveatyvr) for more posts + feel free to join in on the conversations as well! Buenas Noches mi amigos + amigas :)

Personal Diary - Sept 16th Tonight marks the closing of day 30! I can’t believe time has past this fast. Seems like just yesterday when I arrived in my Fairmont suite, breath-taken by the luxury and panoramic view. I finally feel like I’m getting the hang of this place. My morning, lunch and evening routines (although always busy) are forming quite nice. I’ve also made a handful of new friends that are always eager to share laughs. When I think about the half way point (day 40), I get a little sad. There are so many cool people to interview, so many places to see.. but only so much time. Now that I’m getting accompanied to the flow of YVR and my job, I’m excited for the stories to come. Stay tuned my friends, I’m going to finish the next 50 days with more great stories! Have a great weekend everyone!

Quickie Vid - “Quick Update” Hey everyone, just heading to bed and wanted to leave you with a little update. The last few days have been long, but completely amazing. Interview with Country Musician, Paul Brandt, Wedding and Aquarium feeding.. all in one day. I had over 5 hours of footage! But it’s now down to 3.5 hours, as I just finished the Vancouver Aquarium Video tonight! It will be posted soon. Today (Friday) I’ll be job shadowing Elise from YVR Air Side Safety, she will be teaching me how YVR maintains a safe runway. Afterward I will finally meet with Richard from CATSA, where I will discover what happens to those confiscated items at the departure security gates. Gotta get my rest, off to bed. Take care everyone. Chat soon :)

Personal Diary Vid - “Sing Tao & Hanging with Friends” My goal is to make each of the Personal Diary Videos under a minute. So far they’re always a bit over a minute.. I’ll master the one minute clip some day. Have you ever professionally partied in New York? I met up with my friend Alicja at the Plaza Premium Lounge. When I asked her what she was going to do in NY, she pulled a massive plastic binder from her carry-on bag. Inside it was a detailed party itinerary, containing an insiders list of hundreds of parties, after parties, and after after parties. I can’t wait to hear the stories. Good luck Alicja! I’d also like to give a special mention to my buds, Phil and Shaun for sending me a text message, “We’re coming over!” I’ve been so focused on this job, that I haven’t spent anytime with my guy friends. So thank-you for inviting yourselves over! It was great to see their huge grins when they arrived at my hotel room door in Hawaiian shirts. Have a great night / morning everyone!

Personal Diary Vid - “The Night Cap” What an awesome day. Toured three different airport departments, plus showcased YVR on Breakfast Television. Wayyy toooo tired though. See you in the morning.

Quickie Vid - “Last Night @ Home” Although it’s my last night at home, all I can think about are the delicious smells that guided my noise throughout the airport terminal. I was told that I might have the chance to board a 747, and be wined and dined in presidential first class fashion. If you’d like to see an episode on this topic, let me know. I can’t wait to start tomorrow!
